MSNBC has changed its name, yes you heard it right: MS Now (MSNBC formerly) is the basic cable & Satellite channel owned by the NBC universal group. The channel is the sister of the group of eight others which include CNBC, CNBC World and six others. MSNBC replaced America’s Talking (1994-1996). It primarily covers the news, views, currents affairs & political opinions and debates both in America and Worldwide. The channel’s name was derived from the IT conglomerate Microsoft ‘MS’ and the ‘NBC’ of National Broadcasting Company. The Joint venture between Microsoft & General Electric’s NBC unit (now NBC Universal) concluded in establishing the MSNBC and foundation of msnbc.com in 1996. Microsoft invested USD 221 million for having the share of 50% in MSNBC news. In 2025, MSNBC officially rebranded itself as new name MS Now, reflecting its shift toward a more digital first, real-time news entity. The rebrand emphasizes instant news delivery, live analysis, and around-the-clock political coverage that can directly impact modern audiences who prefer mobile and streaming platforms over traditional TV.
The name “MS Now” highlights two key directions:
- “MS” preserves the legacy of the brand, maintaining strong audience recognition.
- “Now” reflects the network’s focus on breaking news, latest and fast updates, and streaming-first journalism.
Even after changing the name, the network continues to operate under the NBCUniversal News Group umbrella, alongside CNBC, NBC News Now, NBC, Telemundo, and various digital properties. The editorial focus, signature anchors, and political commentary remain the same and particularly central strength of MS Now.
The site of the MSNBC news with the end in its online partnership was redirected to NBCNews.com in 2012. The political progressiveness & opinion programming are highly manifested in the contents and programs MS Now is available 24/7 free for our viewers. MSNBC was placed 26th in the prime-time rating as of June 2025 and 30th in the 24 hours with attracting as much as 597,000 & 336,000 viewers respectively.
