Taking the stage at Democratic convention, former first lady Michelle Obama has yet another time appeared with a scathing attack on Trump. Taking on the Republican President in a bid to launch Joe Biden as a WH challenger, the lady said: “Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country”.
Disgruntled members of the GOP also lashed out on the President at the conference. Trump who trails former Delaware senator in opinion polls clapped back. Due to COVID-19 situation, the Democrats scaled down the mass gatherings and revoked the plans for a usual full house party extravaganza in Milwaukee, WI. But many doubt the impact of the largely virtual show of pre-recorded speeches without live audience as the pre-pandemic political razzmatazz created by party faithful was not there.
Republicans ahead of their drastically humbled convention next week are once again faced with the same challenge as they gear up for another four-year term in WH.
Michelle, who recorded her speech before Biden announced California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for VP 6 days ago, lambasted Mr. Trump.
“You simply cannot fake your way through this job,” she admonished the president in closing remarks of the convention on Monday.
In the keynote address she said: Our economy is in shambles because of a virus that this president downplayed for too long.”
“Stating the simple fact that a black life matters is still met with derision from the nation’s highest office,” she continued.
“Because whenever we look to this White House for some leadership, or consolation or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy.”
Mrs. Obama lamented that last 4 years has been difficult to explain to America’s children.
“They see our leaders labelling fellow citizens enemies of the state, while emboldening torch-bearing white supremacists. They watch in horror as children are torn from their families and thrown into cages and pepper spray and rubber bullets are used on peaceful protests for a photo op.”
She continued: “Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country. He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is.”
She touted fellow Democrat and presumptive presidential nominee Biden as a “profoundly decent man” who had had the VP’s experience under her husband Barack Obama.
“We have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it,” she said in an emotional speech wearing a necklace that said “Vote”.
John Kasich a former Ohio governor who ran against Mr. Trump in 2016 jumped into the rant and recorded a message calling on Americans to deny him another four years in White House.
Kasich endorsed Biden, saying: “We can all see what’s going on in our country today and all the questions that are facing us, and no one person or party has all the answers.
“But what we do know is that we can do better than what we’ve been seeing today, for sure.”
Trump hitting back at the former Ohio governor immediately offered a rebuttal while speaking to the BBC on Air Force One: “He was a loser as a Republican, and he will be a loser as a Democrat,” the president said on Monday. “The guy was a major loser as a Republican.”
Trump also warned his supporters and fellow Americans during a campaign earlier in the day in Mankato, Minnesota.
“Nobody’s going to want to cover sleepy Joe,” Trump said. “We will end up with one very boring socialist country that will go to hell.”
